Pulaski came down Friday after school and CMH hosted a dinner at the high school when they arrived. Afterwards both teams played an exhibition 7's match at halftime of the varsity high school football game at Carroll University. Pulaski players stayed overnight with the CMH girls and then played their conference match Saturday morning.
Pulaski played hard but CMH was very disciplined in their rucking and poached a fair amount of balls in the loose play. The Senior led team disciplined and possession led to scores as CMH swung the ball from sideline to sideline.
Scoring for the Crusaders were Ellie Metz, Lizzy Walicki, Kelsey Gustafson, Allison Koenig, Tatum Straw, and Katie Zettel, although many other players on both sides played at least as important roles in the match then the ones who touched down.
Brookfield - 20 vs Fond du Lac - 5
In a hard fought match Brookfield ended up beating Fond du Lac 20 to 5. Nicky Lehto and Anna Watry touched down for Brookfield in the 1st half to give them a 10-0 lead. Emyli Kreiser scored a try to open up the 2nd half for Brookfield to make the score 15-0. Fond du Lac flyhalf Alaina Passarella broke a 70 meter run to pull Fondy within 10 points until Brookfield scrumhalf Sam Jensen took a ball off of a ruck, fed Crystal Jehly who off-loaded to Sam Bartz-Kolp for a 60 meter try to put the game away.
Fond du Lac’s inside game was difficult for Brookfield to handle as Prop Emma Conrad and Liz Stanchfield made punishing runs. In the end Brookfield’s outside speed was enough to get them the victory.
Appleton – 20 vs Kettle Moraine - 0
Appleton had a full side while KM only had 12 because of homecoming so by league rules the game was a forfeit win for Appleton (13 players required to start a game). The teams decided to go ahead and play the game 12 vs 15.
The score was 15-14 in Appleton’s favor as time expired. On KM’s last possession Emily Becker scored her 3rd try of the game. Morgan Saenz then kicked her 3rd conversion of the game for what would have been a 21-15 victory for KM if they had enough players. Jordyn Gaurkee, Kaitlyn Schoepel and Carly Tonor scored tries for Appleton. The ref stated that he would like to thank the fans, teams, and coaching staff for an amazing amount of respect and communication.
DSHA Varsity – 70 vs. Brookfield JV - 0
DSHA has started the season very strong with 70+ point efforts the first 2 games. Senior Fullback/flyhalf Meg Walker led DSHA while Scrumhalf Genovive Ruesch did a fantastic job of running the attack.
Oak Creek – 68 vs Muskego 20
Muskego rucked well and stole away the ball in breakdowns, especially in the second half. Their scrum half [ask Muskego's coaches for her name] moved the ball effectively, and most of Muskego's attacking power came from their pack. Oak Creek’s backline proved too much for Muskego to handle as they were able to break several long runs around the edge of Muskego's defense, notably a 100-meter scamper by by senior prop Kiersten Czarnecki. Prop Izzy Blawat also had a few big runs on the day, including a break-out from a 15-meter maul in the middle of the pitch.
Tries were scored for Oak Creek by Olivia Culver, Natalie Paradise, Kiersten Czarnecki, Gabby Larson, Amanda Delikat, Megan Bird, Sydney Raedel, Meghan Galaszewski, Abby Larch, and Erin Coburn, with conversions added by Liz Grall and Abby Larch.
Pulaski 45 Oak Creek 15
Oak Creek traveled up to Pulaski on Wednesday night. Oak Creek got off to a fast start and put up tries by Abby Larch and Megan Bird (2) before Pulaski scored during a multi-phase possession on Oak Creek's side of the field with a couple of minutes to go in the first half, leaving the score 15-5 in Oak Creek’s favor. The second half was all Pulaski, which put up eight (I think) consecutive tries, including a kickoff return for a score.
Chris Kurth, Oak Creek Caoch stated, “Pulaski looks great, especially for a first year team. There are some positioning issues but they are aggressive runners and ruckers and show solid fundamentals.”
Referee, James Highfield Stated, “Both coaches were great. Oak Creek's coach should be commended for encouraging the spirit of rugby and by getting most/all of his girls into the game (they traveled with 26). Pulaski's coach should also be commended for allowing this to occur to help build numbers and interest in the game. The first half was a clean, well played game. Pulaski took control in the second half when replacement players entered the match.”
